Our personal opinions here at DiscoverTheSmokies.com should be taken as such, (These are not necessarily the thoughts of our advertisers etc) we are not accommodation provider experts, just folks that USE to work in the overnight rental industry.  When you rent from a reputable established large cabin accommodations provider, we believe you gain some very important advantages:

1. PROFESSIONALS in the overnight accommodations industry, have a proven track record that they are successful at handling multitudes of homeowners that have invested many dollars in a cabin / chalet...Imagine managing hundreds of cabins, millions and millions of dollars worth of folks life-long investments, successfully, as opposed to an individual home owner renting their own unit with just their own accommodation? They may be a great doctor, lawyer, etc but that does not qualify them as a proven, overnight accommodations provider that works day-in and day-out handling typical issues that develop, time after time.
2. Imagine the difference in a case where an individual homeowner (sometimes not even residing here in Tennessee) having a major maintenance type issue arise, can you get a hold of the 24/7? WHERE will they move you to if the situation can not be corrected? Do they have FULL-TIME DEDICATED maintenance personnel, housekeeping personnel etc that can be dispatched ASAP? What if there was something unusual like a rock slide blocking an access road to a particular cabin, where does a homeowner with one unit move you to?
3. Imagine even somewhat MINOR inconvenience breakdowns, maybe a TV goes out, a electrical breaker goes bad? Large established accommodations providers will many times STOCK items they have found to occasionally go bad, something an individual homeowner would likely not be able to do
4. What happens if the individual homeowner has unforeseen things pop up, maybe a tree falls and damages the rental, maybe the rental is damaged for whatever reason, where do they move you to?
5. What if I had an overnight rental, and I rented it myself, and a personal emergency happened that tied me up when an unforeseen problem arose with the rental? An established rental company would have alternate employees to bring in where I would not.
6. An established overnight accommodations provider will likely go to great lengths to try and satisfy a renter, an unfair / unprofessional decision may put hundreds of rentals at stake, where an individual owner might just say take it or leave it, with only their one rental at stake, and maybe even quitting renting it to prove a point, this would be an unlikely situation, but just try and keep in mind what is at stake with a company that might be responsible for managing 20-30 million dollars worth the overnight rentals as opposed to a homeowner with one rental?
7. We would expect a large management company that is ran irresponsibly would have a HUGE amount of complaints online services like TripAdvisor.com etc. You may find some deals from 'for rent by owner' accommodations, but is it worth the trade-off of knowing the confidence that comes with trusting your vacation to an established, large accommodations provider with back-up units, full-time service personnel, etc???
